P G Diploma in Still Photography (20 Seats)

( Self Financed Full Time Diploma Course of Still Photography )
Duration: One Year
Number of Students: 20

The unprecedented rate of growth and the general media boom has put tremendous pressure on media education institutes to provide skilled and enlightened men and women to meet the growing needs of the media industry. Still Photography as a profession covers a vast area of the media industry, ranging from journalism to advertising and to the creative art media. Still photography is also passing through an era where a major transition from the film to the digital format is taking place; no longer is there a demand for just a printed picture in the hard copy form. Nowadays the web-world is a major consumer of photographs.

There are very few training institutes that are dealing with the growing and transition pains of this industry. Whereas on one hand technology is making it easy for us to take pictures, specialised hardware as well as software is coming out in the market every day to give the photographers the tools to further refine their images. We at AJK Mass Communication Research Centre are already equipped with the required infrastructure for teaching Still Photography and keep ourselves updated with the latest hardware as well as software. We realise the need to start a professional course in this field keeping in view the demand of the industry so that we produce creative photographers with technical skills who can fulfill the growing void that is being created by the growth of the industry.
The objective of the course is to produce Still Photographers with a sensitivity towards Visual Media to cater to various branches of Still Photography, such as Photojournalism, Advertising Photography, Industrial Photography, Science and Research based photography etc. It needs to be emphasised here that though we will be providing technical training in Still Photography, the aim of the course is not to create just photography technicians but to make sensitive, thinking professionals in the field of Photography. Therefore the course is also designed to equip and impart knowledge to the students towards trends, issues and debates of culture and ethics vis-a-vis photographed images that have prevailed throughout in this field.
