Professor Obaid Siddiqui, a prominent Urdu poet and broadcaster of his generation, joined the Video and Television faculty of AJK MCRC in May 2004. Before coming to AJK MCRC he spent more than two decades as a Broadcast Journalist in various organizations in India and broad. He started his career in broadcast journalism in the early eighties when he joined All India Radio as a Programme Executive in 1983 and worked as the head of News and Current Features Unit at Radio Kashmir Srinagar until 1988. That year he went to London on secondment from All India Radio to join as Producer in the Urdu Section of BBC World Service. In 1992 BBC offered him a permanent job and soon he was promoted to the post of Senior Producer.
 
 
His association with BBC Urdu Service enabled him to develop a better understanding of international as well as sub-continental affairs. During his stay in BBC he not only witnessed and covered the historic changes which took place in Eastern Europe, former Soviet Union and the Middle East but also gained insight into the affairs of SAARC countries particularly India, Pakistan and Bangladesh which were considered to be the main target areas of BBC Urdu Service.
 
     
 
In 1997 he resigned from BBC and returned to Delhi to pursue his career as a Broadcast Journalist in Television. He joined NDTV as Duty News Editor in 1997 and worked there until 2003 when his association with NDTV came to an end with the break up between STAR and its content provider NDTV. Since then he has made three documentary films for Sahitya Akademi including a film on the life and literary contribution of noted English writer Ruskin Bond. Out of the remaining two films one is one the life of noted Urdu poet Shahryar and the other on the veteran Urdu novelist Qazi Abd-us-Sattar. Since January 2003 he is also anchoring an hour long weekly talk show Hamaare Masaail on ETV Urdu which is considered to be the most popular and most talked about show of all the ETV channels.
